So how does it actually work—and more important, does it actually work? We spoke to Betty Andrews, astrologer and life coach at The Cosmic Co., to find out.
What is the “moon phase soulmate” trend?
The basic concept of the moon phase soulmate is that your astrological moon phase can indicate whether or not you’ll be a good match with someone.
“The moon phase soulmate concept is a blend of ancient lunar lore and modern relationship dynamics,” says Andrews. “In essence, when you were born, the specific position of the moon—be it new, full, waxing, or waning—has an impact on who you are emotionally and your personality traits.”
Not only does your moon phase influence who you are, but it can also influence your compatibility with friends and partners. “Just as certain zodiac signs are deemed more compatible, certain moon phases are believed to vibe better with specific other phases, suggesting a potential for deeper connection or understanding,” she says.
When you find the so-called perfect moon phase match, you’re said to have found your soulmate.
How do you determine whether someone is your moon phase soulmate?
To find out whether or not you’re someone’s moon phase soulmate, you’ll first need to figure out which moon phase both you and this other person were born under. “This is relatively straightforward with various dedicated apps and websites available,” says Andrews. Try the moon phase calculator, for instance.
“Once you’re armed with the knowledge of both moon phases, interpretations come into play,” she says. “It’s a realm as vast as zodiac compatibility readings.”
This is where it gets a bit more complicated. For instance, it’s not always as simple as matching with someone who shares your moon phase. Sometimes certain phases pair well together, creating what Andrews describes as a “yin-yang balance.”
While some sources might emphasize the harmony between matching moon phases, others delve into intricate dynamics, suggesting that certain phases, while different, might offer a yin-yang balance. The easiest way to tap into the trend is figuring out each of your moon phases and then reading the traits below to see whether this is the kind of partner you want to share you life with….
What does each moon phase mean for people born during it?
So what does each phase of the moon mean about you?
“Each moon phase carries with it a particular energy, akin to having a unique fingerprint of emotional and personality tendencies,” says Andrews. Here she breaks down each phase for us:
- New moon: If you arrived under this phase, you’re probably one who embraces beginnings and seeks novelty. You might have an inherent urge to pioneer and lead.
- Waxing crescent: Born during this phase? You’re likely the preparer, setting the stage. You have the vision and are laying down the foundations for things to grow.
- First quarter: First-quarter babies are full of dynamic energy. They face challenges with gusto, and when something stands in their way, they don’t just stand there; they act.
- Waxing gibbous: Perfection and refinement are the hallmarks of those born under this phase. They constantly strive to improve and elevate things, making them the best version they can be.
- Full moon: Birthed under a full moon? You have an innate balance, able to see and appreciate both sides of a coin, making you an excellent mediator.
- Waning gibbous: These individuals often serve as guides or mentors. With a natural inclination toward imparting wisdom, they uplift those around them.
- Last quarter: Being adaptable and welcoming change are the traits of those born in this phase. They’re the phoenixes, ever-ready to transform and evolve.
- Waning crescent: Deep reflection and introspection define these individuals. They often dwell on life’s deeper meanings and are attuned to the spiritual side of existence.
How accurate is the moon phase soulmate concept?
Before you get out there and start comparing your moon phase with those of all your friends and family, it’s worth asking: Does this concept actually work?
According to Andrews, it can be extremely effective. “My clients have found it to be very accurate,” she says. “Just as people find meaning and guidance in zodiac signs, tarot cards, or numerology, the moon phase soulmate theory can offer a personal framework for self-reflection and understanding relationship dynamics.”
Of course, if someone isn’t your moon phase soulmate, it certainly doesn’t mean you can’t have a meaningful, powerful relationship.
“It’s crucial to remember that real-world relationships are multifaceted,” she says. “They thrive on mutual respect, communication, shared experiences, and myriad other factors. So, while it’s intriguing to explore, the moon phase soulmate concept is just one of many tools in the vast universe of understanding human connections.”
